Lecture: Stephen Prina (Live online, Los Angeles, in English)
February 21, 2026, 6 PM

As part of a ten-month fellowship in California, Michel Majerus spoke to students about his artistic approach, illustrated with a multi-part moving-image collage layered with views from his own exhibitions, artistic references, and sources of inspiration.

The talk unfolds as a reflection on his practice, revealing how site, scale, appropriation, and juxtaposition operate as generative conditions rather than fixed positions. Seen retrospectively, the lecture functions as a performative extension of Majerus’ painting practice, offering a rare and intimate view into his non-hierarchical, open-ended approach to making and thinking about art.

The American artist Stephen Prina, who taught at Pasadena ArtCenter from 1980 to 2003, offers insight into the context of Michel Majerus’ lecture both within and beyond the institution, in the format of a live online lecture.

Selected works thematically related to the presentation will be displayed at the Michel Majerus Estate. Guests are welcome to view the artworks from 5 pm onwards.
