Isabella Ducrot is known for her devoted use of woven cloth as the founding material of her artistic practice. Only beginning her artistic career later in life, the Italian artist has assembled a sublime collection of antique textiles through her extensive travels through Asia, originating primarily from Turkey, India, China, Tibet and Afghanistan.
Ducrot has been depicting erotic scenes since the late nineties, though has seldom shown them in public. Her gestural works share a tenderness and sensuality which contribute to a narrative of sexual duality as a key to interpreting the world. These erotic compositions are drawn on Chinese paper, a material which forms the starting point of their creation as Ducrot drew references from venerable erotic drawings of the Oriental World for the works.
