Matt Mullican began his 'Stick Figure Drawings', of a character he calls Glen, in the 1970s. Glen functions as a fictional alter-ego of the artist, and appears as a figure reduced to the most basic representation; a simple genderless silhouette in whom we can recognize the generic sign of the universal symbol of a self-portrait. In Mullican's repeated utilisation of the figure Glen, the artist explores the fictional realities and the boundaries of his imaginary world.
