Alexandra Metcalf’s work interweaves elements of past and present to explore notions of memory, functionality, and aesthetic reconstruction. Combining a salvaged pine banister with resin panels appropriating the form of CD cases, the work shows a negotiation between historical and modern materiality. The placement of the sculpture, cut and emerging from a wall, reinforces themes of displacement, suggesting how history might be fragmented and reimagined within contemporary narratives.

A solo exhibition by Alexandra Metcalf will open at The Perimeter, London, accompanied with a publication in May 2025.

  • A flower has such a short life span; it blooms and it is so majestic at its height but then it just falls away. I find pleasure in painting them and then seeing what happens when they become just a trace of something left.

  • Ducrot’s depictions of flowers and ceramic vessels symbolize her idea of happiness: “Happiness for me is being seated around a table with one friend, with more friends, with family...” A convergence of everyday reality, inner life, and broader cultural references has been a defining feature of her work from the outset.

In 2026, the Madre Museum in Naples will present a retrospective of Isabella Ducrot curated by Adam Weinberg.
