How can art respond to a threat seemingly so abstract yet endangering all of humanity? What images, stories and forms of artistic protest can spark political debates and social change?
As part of the exhibition Artists Against The Bomb - Art Against the Nuclear Threat, artists and activists will discuss the role of art in the campaign for nuclear disarmament. The focus is on questions of memory, public visibility, and the political power of cultural practice. And how this is being shaped today when the nuclear threat is greater than it has been in a long time.
Together, we will discuss
● the role art can play in addressing war, rearmament and remembrance,
● how artistic activism shapes social debates and
● why civic engagement for nuclear disarmament remains indispensable.
Following the discussion, there will be an opportunity to tour the exhibition and chat with the curators and artists at the reception.
Participants in the discussion are:
● Isabel Deheza, Artists Against the Bomb
● Aicha Kheinette/Janina Rüther, ICAN Germany
● artists from Artists Against the Bomb
The event will be held in English with simultaneous translation into German.
