'Seven Sins. Art between Temptation and Resistance' (Group Show), Archive of the Avant-Gardes – Egidio Marzona, Dresden
June 19 – September 6, 2026

A sinful life is often associated with excess: losing oneself in earthly pleasures or overwhelming emotions; deliberately harming oneself and others. This multimedia, cross-collection exhibition reinterprets the seven deadly sins.

Pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth appear here not as violations of a divine order, but as transgressions of societal norms, which have become increasingly ambivalent since the modern era. The starting point is Pieter van der Heyden's series of copperplate engravings, "The Seven Deadly Sins," based on Pieter Bruegel the Elder. From this point, a dialogue unfolds with modern and contemporary works, including pieces by Otto Dix, Max Ernst, Claes Oldenburg, Monica Bonvicini, and Colette Lumière. Literature, film, and discussions with the city's residents examine the catalog of sins within the context of the present day.
