What began as an idea and without institutional support has developed into the largest photography festival of the Berlin summer: Starting July 5, 2025, "Communication and Attitude" will bring international photography and art into public spaces – visible, accessible, and free of charge. Initiated by a small team around the Haus des Papiers museum , the festival demonstrates what is possible when conviction, community, and artistic vision converge. With over 29 renowned artists, 16 locations in Berlin, Chemnitz, and Basel, and a clear message: art can make attitudes visible – and build bridges in a time increasingly characterized by division.
Especially in times of growing social tensions and political polarization, the "Communication and Attitude" festival seeks new images for democratic discourse. From July 3 to September 7, 2025, the Haus des Papiers museum will present photographic works on the topic of respectful communication and democratic participation in over 16 locations in Berlin, Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture 2025 , and Basel – on construction fences, billboards, in cultural institutions, and even in subway stations.
Numerous prominent artists are participating, including Anne Imhof, Yael Bartana, Rosemarie Trockel, Joseph Beuys, and Monica Bonvicini. The high-profile exhibition is accompanied by current positions in contemporary photography by artists such as Johanna Maria Fritz, Wolfgang Stahr, and Dominik Butzmann. The exhibitions are complemented by educational programs, workshops, and discussion formats that invite participants to participate and share their thoughts.
