The Academy of Fine Arts has created its own public space, the "Akademie-Galerie – Die Neue Sammlung," to collect and exhibit works by the Academy's teaching artists. The gallery serves to preserve the Academy's memory, promote ongoing self-reflection, and set new standards in the city's art scene.
The Academy Gallery's collection consists of paintings, sculptures, photography, videos, and installations, as well as graphic works and hand drawings.
With the exhibition Bildspeicher IV – Neue Werke in der Sammlung, the Academy Gallery presents the first part of the new donations from current teaching staff, complemented by works by recently retired art professors. Works by Tomma Abts, Ed Atkins, Maximiliane Baumgartner, Nina Canell, Danica Dakic, Donatella Fioretti, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Ellen Gronemeyer, Eberhard Havekost, Kati Heck, Georg Herold, Gereon Krebber, Thomas Kröger, Lena Newton, Marcel Odenbach, Albert Oehlen, Peter Piller, Thomas Scheibitz and Gregor Schneider will be shown.
