Maria Lassnig's work will be exhibited in the upcoming group shop The Beauty od Diversity at ALBERTINA MODERN.
As the expansion and diversification of museum collections goes hand in hand with the unconditional and current demand for equality and freedom of expression, the exhibition The Beauty of Diversity shows the wealth and diversity of ALBERTINA's contemporary collections and the indispensable attention to women and LGBTQIA+ artists, people of color, aboriginal positions and self-taught artists who stand out against the contrasting backdrop of old masters.
The art world today is intensively concerned with identity politics issues surrounding class, race and gender. The broad spectrum of artistic approaches, stylistic and content-related approaches represents a necessary addition to the art historical canon.
The spring exhibition at ALBERTINA MODERN develops an aesthetics of diversity that brushes against the grain the ideality of a classic will to style and form as well as the design of a one-dimensional human being - pursues the beauty of the grotesque, impure and repressed as well as the marginalized, abject and gives visibility to the deviation from the norm.
The exhibition is on view at the ALBERTINA MODERN Museum from 16 February to 18 August 2024.
