The exhibition presents artistic works that deal with the idea of stepping out of the self ("Unselfing") coined by the Irish philosopher Iris Murdoch. In an age of the self, the works explore the experience of self-dissolution as a healing force. With newly created performances, video works, paintings and installations, the international artists show the possibilities of fluid identities, the death of one part and the transformation of another. They seek feelings of empathy and oneness with the surrounding world - with people or nature.
The exhibition presents artistic approaches of mixed authorship, of dissolving in the collective and explores the possibility of achieving a state of self-laterality, empathy and happiness through meditation, trance, pain, chemical substances and certain bodily practices.
