Tendernesses distills Isabella Ducrot’s exploration of intimacy, materiality, and the fragile poetry of the everyday. A pair of figures emerges from a luminous golden ground, their bodies delicately rendered in wavering lines. The composition recalls the visual language of religious icons, whose radiant gold surfaces evoke a space beyond ordinary time. Yet Ducrot replaces the hieratic stillness of the sacred image with an intimate, deeply human gesture: the figures appear to lean into one another, suspended somewhere between embrace, repose, and quiet companionship.

The work’s tactile surface is central to its meaning. Ducrot’s longstanding engagement with textiles and fragile papers lends the figures a palpable vulnerability: folds, creases, and translucent layers become part of the image, suggesting bodies shaped not only by touch but also by memory and time. The gold field further transforms this private moment into something almost devotional, imbuing tenderness itself with a sense of reverence.

Rather than describing a specific narrative, Tendernesses evokes a state of being: the comfort of closeness, the quiet recognition of another presence, and the tenderness found in shared vulnerability. With extraordinary economy, Ducrot turns paper, line, and gold into a poetic meditation on affection, connection, and the sacredness of human touch.
