Charline von Heyl

'Titan Arum' is emblematic of Charline von Heyl’s pivot toward works combining bold stroke, vivid color, energetic mark-making (charcoal, paint), and a push-pull between abstraction, with hints of figuration. The title’s reference to the enormous corpse-flower, notorious for its dramatic bloom and odor, suggests attention to extremes, both in visual intensity and temporal unfolding. In this work, contrasts of luminosity, gestural sweeps, and sculptural depth in paint weave a dynamic field.

Von Heyl’s major survey exhibition 'Giddy Road to Ruin' is currently on view at the George Economou Collection, Athens, which spans several decades of her work and includes her most recent pieces.
