In After Years of Talking, Monica Bonvicini incorporates a quotation by the Spanish writer and philosopher Paul B. Preciado. As in many of her text-based works, language becomes both material and message: the mirrored surface draws viewers into the work, transforming reading into an act of self-reflection.

Bonvicini’s practice explores the intersections of power, identity, desire, and the built environment. By placing Preciado’s words on a reflective surface, she shifts attention from the statement itself to the viewer’s own position in relation to it. The work resonates with her longstanding interest in questioning normative constructions of gender and authority, while emphasizing identity as a process of continuous negotiation and transformation.
