Twilight-Brigade: Three ghostly figures on the walls are recognizable from specific perspectives and light conditions. Applied with gloss white paint, these paintings visually and metaphorically compress figure - abstracted surfers holding their boards - and ground - the architecture of the gallery’s modernist GDR pavilion. The individual titles hint at historical figures of partisanship who strategized irregular warfare against the state and its uniformed military: Prussian general Carl von Clausewitz, author of the unfinished publication Vom Kriege (1832), a comprehensive theory of war, Russian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin, and the Viet Cong, which through shorting to VC in the NATO phonetic alphabet came to be referred in US military parlance as “Charlie”.Exhibitions
