This work is representative of how Monika Sosnowska alludes to a specific socio-historical reality, to contradict the rational paradigm of modernism, creating as a result a beautiful visual puzzle.
Gate takes its inspiration from the gates and bars which people would install in the corridors of blockhouses. The buildings were designed to have common spaces, shared among everybody, but their inhabitants started dividing them with gates to ensure privacy and security. They had no specific designer; they were created by welders with functionality and utility in mind, while also bearing traces of decorative motives. The materials used in production were very cheap, collected from buildings sites — consisting of whatever was available.1of 2
