Flags are strong political symbols that are taken up in artistic works in a variety of ways. They stand for communal convictions and values, emphasize national sovereignty, mark territorial borders, include and exclude. But flags are also used for protest and resistance. The exhibition at the Weserburg focuses on current positions from an international context in order to reflect on the meaning, power, and use of flags through contemporary art production. Questions about our different ideas of identity, nation, and origin come into view.
